Woods delight at his first World Championships medal

ALEC Woods produced one of the best performances of his career to win his first international medal at the World Masters Mountain  Running Championships in Slovakia.

In a thrilling race the 53-year-old Bristol & West AC runner finished runner-up in the over 50s 10k race that included 600 metres of climbing, only losing his grip on the title in the closing stages of the race in Pruske.

“I have finished fourth and ninth in this event in the past so I cannot complain at all,” said Woods.

“I knew I was fit when I came here so my attitude was to really go for it. It was literally boom or bust and if I went too hard and blew up spectacularly then so be it.
