Why new county champion Rosie is finding her feet

ROSIE Hamilton-Jones’s first victory in the Avon Schools’ Cross Country Championships underlines her huge improvement this winter.

The 15-year-old Bristol Grammar School student (pictured wearing Nr 21) from Coombe Dingle dominated the inter girls’ race at Blaise Castle for arguably the best victory of her young career to date and book her place in the county team for the South West and English Schools’ Championships.

“Rosie won by around 30 seconds and there was definitely more there,” said coach Jason Michael, who works with her at Westbury Harriers.

“She looked very strong and comfortable and was even chatting to me as she approached the finish line! I think there is a lot left in the tank for the bigger races to come.”

Hamilton-Jones has been running for Westbury for over three years now but it is only this winter that she has started to shine putting together a series of good results, including a bronze medal in the Tri-Counties Championships just before Christmas and then fourth place in the South West Championships earlier this month.

“Rosie has always been there or thereabouts but she has really kicked on this season,” added Michael.
