Merson runner-up in Barry Island 10k & a PB for Blackwood

FORMER Bristol & West AC runner Tom Merson (pictured right)  finished runner-up in the Barry Island 10k road race on Sunday.

Merson, who lives in the east Devon seaside town of Exmouth, clocked 30mins 37secs behind Swansea winner Joshua Griffiths (30:21) with another former B&W athlete, international duathlete Phil Wylie, fourth in 31:10.

From Westbury Harriers Alastair Blackwood finished 89th in a personal best time of 40mins 35secs.

Meanwhile in Germany Team Bath international Rebecca Hilland, who lives in Norway, ran her fastest time of the year in the Berlin 10k with 34mins 48secs.

That puts Hilland – formerly Rebecca Wade – sixth in the 2019 South West Rankings.

Hilland (pictured left) is finding her way back to form after being forced out for almost a year following a foot operation.
