Hugh is so happy after winning his first Great Britain vest

GREAT news for Bristol and West AC runner Hugh Sadler this week with confirmation that he will be making his debut for Great Britain.

The 18-year-old from Clifton will pull on the national vest for the first time a week on Saturday (JAN 13th) in the Great Edinburgh Cross-Country International against teams from Europe and the United States.

“When the news came through it was a bit of a surprise so I was absolutely delighted,” said Sadler.

Sadler’s selection was secured following his 13th place in the European Championship trials in Liverpool before Christmas after a good start to the season.

“After that race I thought I might have a chance of getting selected for the Edinburgh meeting but I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much,” added Sadler.

“I was really happy with my run there and all the hard work has paid off.”

That hard work hasn’t just been over the past year either as Sadler has been a member of Bristol & West since 2013 and under the careful guidance of coaches Alison Hurford and then Dave Bedwell has made steady progress.

“Hugh has been guided by Dave Bedwell since 2013 and by Alison Hurford from 2010 to 2013 and it is great to see a club member advance gradually through the ranks as he moved through the age groups,” said club development officer Keith Brackstone.
