Charlotte delight as she breaks 10 minutes for the first time

CHARLOTTE Taylor-Green smashed her personal best over the 3000m steeplechase in Spain tonight to leap up to second in the UK Rankings.

Racing in the Iberoamericano de Atletismo in Huelva the Bristol & West AC runner broke the landmark 10 minutes barrier for the first time with a sparkling time of 9mins 58.85secs.

That slashed almost 10 seconds off her previous best which she ran in Belgium at the end of last month and she becomes only the second runner in Britain behind No 1 Rosie Clarke to go under 10 minutes this season.

“Tracking her friend and travelling buddy Irish athlete Kerry O’Flaherty they both started clocking 78s,” explained husband Dave.

“Charlotte has been known for a fast finish, which may have come in today as she held off fellow English woman Aimee Pratt.

“She is absolutely delighted to break 10 minutes.”

Selected results: 8 Charlotte Taylor-Brown 9:58.85; 9 Aimee Pratt 9:59.86 (England, U23); 11 Kerry O’Flaherty 10:06.86 (Ireland).
